Creating a Spooky Charcuterie
Preparing the perfect Halloween charcuterie.
If you’re planning a get together with family and friends in your bubble, a Halloween themed charcuterie board is a great way to present treats for everyone to enjoy. Here are a few easy steps to help you get started.
-
Choose the right charcuterie board
Use what you have available. Wood charcuterie boards are our favourite but you could also use a wood cutting board or some other serving tray you may have on hand. The only caution is to make sure it’s a food-safe surface.
These boards are from our Viking Charcuterie Board collection available online and at select Sobeys stores in Atlantic Canada. Click here for more information.

Choose your ingredients
We like to make a list of ingredients we want to include. We generally start every board with a hard cheese, a soft cheese or hummus, cured meats, pickled veggies and crackers. Then based on the theme, we add in colour and texture that matches. This is a Halloween theme so we need to think sweet and colourful. We’ll be looking to add candies, sweet dip like fluff, some colourful fruit, and even a little chocolate.
-
Plan your presentation
When planning our presentation we like to start by visualizing the board and the placement of vessels for dips, sauces, and juicy items. We like to have a selection of different containers to choose from and then we get to work figuring out where to place them. Everything else gets added around these items.
Because this is a sweet and savoury board, we are going to create a separation and have the meats and cheeses at one end and the sweets at the other. Our selection of crackers will create the border between them.

Place your meats and cheeses
The next step is placing the meats and cheeses. Depending on the types of ingredients, you can be extra creative here. Think curves, lines, and piles.
